HOW TO:  Hibernate at 2am and wake up at 7am ??
I can hibernatemy computer via ascheduled taskusing this cmd: c:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /h /f /t 5But, how do I wake the computer viaanother scheduled task? I have trieda scheduled task that has the "wake this computer up" but that does not work. Also, hibernation is the deepest sleep which should consume the least Wattages, right?Thank you,

When you use hibernate your computer itpowers off,so there is no way it can run a task. Edit... I was wrong. Sorry about that. (see below)

I'm pretty sure it can't be done through a scheduled task but have you tried using a BIOS wake option ?

Hiberanating is a really a method of shutting down the computer but information is savedto the hiberfill.sys file first. Since the during hibernation the computer is essentially off, there willno way other than manually to wake it.

Looks like scheduled tasks will do this too - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/appcompat/aa906020.aspx(see figure 4)Want to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? Check out these links: **Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ** **Microsoft Logo'd Hardware List**

Check out these links: **Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ** **Microsoft Logo'd Hardware List** I scheduled notpad to open at a given time. Iset the computer to hibernate withshutdown.exe /h.It succesfully woke the computerat the precise time but I had to click the user picture first. The desktop appeared with notpad.exe running. On the conditions tab, the only boxI had checkedwas "wake the computer to run this task" with the other options deselected. Conclusion, per Mark's documentation, waking the computer from hibernating with a scheduled task is possible.

Thanks for testing that out.

I do as well but still cannot get my head round how the PC can wake up at a scheduled time when there is no power to the processor. Sleep mode I can comprehend, possibly even hybrid sleep. Well, you learn something everyday.

BrowniMFC; well, the computer is not technically off in hibernation mode. The PSU still draws power - I believe less then 1Watts. So, if the devices you have on your computer support the deep sleep mode (4) then they should wake up. But, it is a good question of which component (software or hardware) that inititiates the wake? My guess is that it is NOT the OS (well, the contents of the RAM are in HD and the OS is not running :) so its gotta be the hardware but then hardware on its own cannot do this. So, I would votefor the BIOS.As I haveindicated on my inital post, I have tried to wake the computer from a task by checking allow this task to wake computer or something in that nature.I must say that I am suprised that you (Mr. Seven) were able to wake your computer with a scheduled task. Almost all the computers/servers I have tried did not work - justdid not wake the computer from the hibernation. I have even tried on fairly new computers that supports the deep sleep. powercfg queries. So, would you be kind enough to export the task you created to wake up the computer and then post the contents of the xml. OR just note what you have checked and what not. But, you couldnt have just all other options deselected, i.e. some options are either/ or like run only when user logged on or not. Also, what kind of system have you tried it on? i.e. motherboard, CPU, HD, NIC?Can someone else confirm that this option of waking the computer from hibernate works via a scheduled task that has "allow this task to wake computer" checked...And, fyi, you had to click on the user picture first, because you have probably require a password on wakeup option enabled.
